HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say the cause of a fire at a Dollar General Tuesday was a mechanical failure inside of a drink cooler.
Capt. Anthony Chittum with Hampton Fire Division said the store was not open during the fire and there were no injuries, but the building will be closed for some time. The damage was mainly to contents of the store and not the building itself.
Chittum with the Hampton Fire Division told WAVY.com crews were on scene of the store near Mercury Boulevard and Aberdeen Road early Tuesday morning.
Chittum said crews had to force their way into a building next to the Dollar General to put out the fire.
