HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - State Police say a Chesapeake man died in a motorcycle accident at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel early Saturday morning.
The accident happened at 12:38 a.m. and involved several vehicles traveling eastbound on Interstate 64, east of Mallory Street, outside the HRBT, Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said.
Troopers have identified the victim as Jermaine Spain, 31, of Chesapeake. According to Anaya, Spain was driving a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle when he lost control and the motorcycle struck the metal railing. Spain was ejected.
The driver of a 2005 Chrysler 300 behind Spain was unable to stop and struck Spain after he was ejected, Anaya added. Other vehicles following behind the second vehicle also tried to stop and instead caused a separate accident with minor injuries.
According to troopers, speed and alcohol both played a role in the crash. There are no charges at this time.
The eastbound lanes of the HRBT were closed for three hours early Saturday morning and have since reopened.
