HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton residents should be prepared to be without power until Sunday, Hampton Mayor Molly Joseph Ward tweeted Saturday morning.
The storms that passed through the Hampton Roads area late Friday evening into Saturday morning left thousands without power including 6,700 customers in Hampton.
The City of Hampton has set up a cooling site for residents at the West Hampton Community Center at 1638 Briarfield Rd. The site will be open from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday. Another cooling site will be open on Sunday at the Northampton Community Center, 1435 Todds Lane, Building A, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Excessive heat warnings are in effect for Saturday with highs expected to be in the 100s and conditions are expected to be the same for Sunday. A complete list of cooling sites and tips to keep cool can be found on WAVY.com.
