HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Crews with Hampton Fire and Rescue were busy early Tuesday morning when a house caught fire along Kensington Drive.
Capt. Jeff Pereira with Hampton Fire and Rescue told WAVY.com the fire started around 1:30 a.m. in the attic of a home in the 1800 block of Kensington Drive. That fire then spread to the roof of the home.
Capt. Anthony Chittum with Hampton Fire and Rescue said crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home upon arrival. They tried to fight the flames inside the home, but were forced to withdraw because of the heavy fire.
Four people were said to be inside, including a 5-month-old baby. Pereira said everyone made it safely out of the home and no one was hurt.
Chittum added the fire took about half an hour to control.
The home has been deemed unlivable after it suffered 90 percent loss in the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted for the three adults and infant displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time and Chittum said it seems to be accidental and not suspicious. Stay with WAVY.com for more on this developing story.
