HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get a Hampton house fire under control and eight people have been displaced, according to officials.
Dispatchers in Hampton told WAVY.com the fire sparked at a home along South Landing Hall near Salt Pond Road around 7:45 p.m. No injuries were reported in the fire.
Capt. Chittum with the Hampton Fire Department said the home belongs to someone in the fire department, but he did not elaborate further. Heavy smoke and fire was showing through the roof and the second floor of the home when crews arrived.
Two adults and six children were able to get out of the home and are now being assisted by the American Red Cross.
