Excavator catches fire in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - An excavator caught fire early Monday morning as crews were tearing down an old hotel in Hampton.

Capt. Anthony Chittum with the Hampton Fire Division told WAVY.com the call came in at 8:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of Mercury Boulevard. Crews were tearing down an old Holiday Inn.

No one was injured and the fire was reported out before 9 a.m.

Officials have not said what might have sparked the fire.
