Bicyclist critical after Hampton crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A bicyclist is in critical condition with possible life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle early Monday morning.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said the crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. at the intersection of North Mallory Street and Shelton Road when a 2005 Dodge Caravan struck a bicyclist from behind.

Both the driver of the van and the bicyclist were heading south on Mallory Street, Shackelford said. The bicyclist, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

He remains in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
