HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Two women were hospitalized and another was hurt after a driver hit them with his truck and sped off last Friday night in Hampton.

Police say the incident occurred at the intersection of Kecoughtan Road and LaSalle Avenue.

Marmalela Volk and Michelle Ralph hugged one another inside Riverside Hospital in Newport News Tuesday afternoon, embracing their friendship and their fears.

"I thought I was going to die there in the street," Volk said.

The memories of what happened to the two women and their friend April are overwhelming at times.

"We looked to our left and again to our right," Volk said. 'It was clear except for another car coming and it happened so fast, I can't even say which direction it was coming from."

"I said, 'Oh Lord! He's going to hit us!' and then I tried to move them out of the way," Ralph said.

Ralph wasn't strong enough to move her friends from the oncoming truck.

"I was hit immediately, the very first one by the (truck) and he was going faster than the speed limit and I went up on his hood, came up, flew up I went down and I hit the street and as he proceeded to hit the next girl, April, he ran over this leg and kind of crushed it because a lot of witnesses said I kind of looked flat there laying on the scene," Volk said.

"When I got hit I bounced back up because in my mind I wanted to try and chase him to get the license plate number, but when I tried to move, my body was hurting real bad. So I couldn't move," Ralph said.

What she could do was call 911, but while on the phone, she had a horrifying discovery.

"I couldn't remember like my name and stuff," Ralph said.

Four days after the hit and run, Ralph still struggles with her memory.

"This girl came over to my house, my husband said it was my daughter with her baby, said it was my grandson, but I don't remember them," Ralph said.

With the truck driver still out there, Volk prepares for another surgery.

"They told me I'm going to have to re-walk all over again," Volk cried from her hospital bed.

However, through her tears she says she's not mad. She just wants justice.

"Anything he did can be forgiven but he's got to be sorry. He should at least turn himself in and do what's right," Volk said.

Volk says she does have medical insurance while Ralph says she does not have insurance.

Police say the three women were not in a crosswalk when try tried to walk across the intersection, but all three women who were hit say that does not give the driver the right to hit them and speed off.

Investigators say they are looking for a white truck, possibly an older model Ford Ranger that is missing its driver's side mirror.

If you see the truck or have any details about the hit and run, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
