HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton salon is collecting donations for a Peninsula stabbing victim and giving girls free hairstyles for back-to-school.
Ambience Hair and Nail Gallery is fundraising for Tanisha Tynes, who was held hostage and stabbed seven times inside a York County Wal-Mart in July. Tynes' aunt, Tascha Guy, is a manager at Ambience and saw the fundraiser as an opportunity to give back to the community and also help her neice as well.
"We are doing the fundraiser today [Monday] along with doing the hair of the four young girls that are the daughters of Tynesha Tynes. So far we have raised $500 for her to be deposited into her account," said Guy.
In addition to Tynes' daughters, the salon gave free hair service to other girls in the community before they go back to school.
14-year-old Sade Christian made an appointment for a free hairdo. "I'm getting a free hairdo for school. I gotta look cute for school," said Christian. She got a wrap hairstyle for the first day of classes on Tuesday.
Her mother, Hope Christian, thought it was great that Ambience offered this service. "It's not often that you're able to go into a salon just as a walk-in and get your hair done for free. So for them to actually do this, I think the young ladies and the beauticians that are here are wonderful... not to mention, all the young school kids get to show off their new hairdos for school," said Hope Christian.
The money donated at the hair salon will go to Tanisha Tynes to help with her recuperation. The family set up a fund for anyone who wants to help Tynes out. Donations can be sent to any Wood Forest National Bank, c/o: Tanisha Tynes -- Account Number: 1953337118.
