RICHMOND (WAVY) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is calling on Virginians to participate in a Statewide moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Friday to mark one week since the Connecticut school shooting.
Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy issued a proclamation declaring Dec. 21 as a Day of Mourning. He also called on Connecticut places of worship and government buildings to ring bells 26 times during the moment of silence.
McDonnell also issued a day of mourning proclamation for Friday.
"Our hearts continue to be heavy for all of those in Newtown, Connecticut who are mourning the losses of 26 of their own one week after this senseless tragedy," Governor McDonnell said. "Last week I spoke with Governor Malloy and pledged Virginia's support for his state and offered our assistance in any way we could to help."
20 children and six adults were killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT on Dec. 14.
