VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A 9-year-old girl has taken it upon herself to start an anti-bullying club at her elementary school.
Saniyyah Bamberg saw a commercial on TV about the effects of bullying. Having seen some friends go through it, she decided she couldn't sit back anymore and created a "No Bullies Allowed Club" at Thalia Elementary School.
"Because people when they bully others some people don't know how to handle it," Bamberg said. "I wanted to make a club about it because I knows what it feels like to be bulled and it doesn't really feel good."
Bamberg's father said he was pleasantly surprised when he heard about his daughter's new club.
"I thought about hold old she was and it blew me away," Willie Bamberg said. "Just the thought of my daughter making a difference... I think that it's a very admirable thing and I honor for it. I am very proud."
Every Tuesday, Bamberg's club does different activities to help spread the word of the negative effects of bullying.
"We talk about bullying and how it could affect other people.. why it's so harmful to people," Bamberg said.
At the ripe age of 9, Bamberg seems to be wise beyond her years.
"My parents taught me how to be strong, and what [bullies] say doesn't matter. It matters what you think about yourself," Bamberg said.
