Gas prices increase 35 cents in a month

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - According to AAA, gas prices nationwide increased by 43 cents since last month. On a local level, they increased 35 cents in Virginia.

In Norfolk, prices increased 9 cents since last Friday, rising to $3.58. Norfolk's increase since last month matches the Virginia average increase, 35 cents. 

Gas prices in Norfolk were $3.48 this time last year.

“In essence, for each 50 cent increase in the price at the pump, motorists will approximately spend $600 more per year,” AAA VP of Public Affairs Georjeane Blumling said. “These rapidly rising gas prices are especially tough on people already trying to do more with less. Fuel conservation is becoming critical for people trying to balance a family budget.”
