KITTY HAWK, N.C. (WAVY) - Fire destroyed a couple's home on the Outer Banks early Saturday afternoon.
Kitty Hawk Fire Chief Lowell Spivey and crews responded to the house fire at 3929 Ivy Lane in the Kitty Hawk Landing neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. They arrived a few minutes later to find the home fully engulfed in flames.
The couple who lived in the home got out safely, Spivey said. Firefighters spend about one getting the blaze under control. Spivey said the fire started from an apparent electrical problem but the exact cause remains under investigation.
One firefighter suffered a minor a muscle strain after the fire was out when he was picking up a fire hose, Spivey said. No one else suffered injuries.
Five fire departments assisted Kitty Hawk, including Nags Head, Colington, Kill Devil Hills, Southern Shores and Duck.
