NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Fire damaged an auto parts store in the East End Saturday evening.

Firefighters responded to Rick's Auto Repair, 1048 39th St., at 5:09 p.m. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building.

Crews entered the building to find heavy flames and zero visibility inside the shop. One firefighter suffered minor injuries when he fell into a pit used by mechanics to access the underside of vehicles. Medics treated the firefighter on scene.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at 5:47 p.m. Investigators ruled the fire started from an electrical problem. Officials estimated the damage at $35,000, and they condemned the building.
