PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (WAVY) - Two F-16 fighters intercepted two private planes over Williamsburg Saturday that violated restricted air space for the arrival of President Barack Obama on Air Force One.
The F-16s, under the direction of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, responded to the first airspace violation by a Cessna 182 around 5:30 p.m. The second violation involved a Piper PA32, which flew into the restricted area about 15 minutes later.
After intercepting the aircraft, the F-16s escorted both out of the area, and the aircraft were allowed to continue without further incident.
According to various news outlets, the President flew into the Newport News/ Williamsburg International Airport Saturday around 2:30 p.m. to spend a few days preparing for the next presidential debate scheduled on Oct. 16.
NORAD encouraged all pilots flying in the vicinity of Williamsburg to check the Federal Aviation Administration VIP Notice to Airmen that can be found at here .
