NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Eastern Virginia Medical School has received the largest gift from an individual in its history.

Eastern Virginia announced Monday that the late Virginia Glennan Ferguson of Virginia Beach bequeathed $4 million to the school.

The gift will be used to support the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology endowment. Ferguson gave $2 million in 1995 to establish the center.

The center eventually will be supported by $1.6 million committed by Ferguson from a charitable remainder trust.

She also gave $250,000 to support the Westminster-Canterbury Endowed Professorship.

Ferguson was 96 when she died in December.
