ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Nine fires have sparked on the Eastern Shore in just four days and many appear to be the work of an arsonist.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the latest fires occurred within three hours of each other Tuesday night.
The first sparked around 7:45 p.m. in the 22000 block of Wachapreague Road in Wachapreague at an abandoned two-story home. The second fire was reported before 11 p.m. in the 24000 block of Church Road in Tasley.
Both buildings were destroyed, and no injuries were reported.
Anaya said both fires appear to be arson and the investigation continues. This brings the total of arsons on the Eastern Shore to 62 and two attempted arsons since November. Two additional arsons were reported Monday night and five other fires were reported between Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone with information is asked to call State Police. Information leading to an arrest and conviction can be worth $25,000.
