HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton police believe wet road conditions caused a pickup truck to swerve off the road, crash into a power pole and eject a female passenger Saturday afternoon.

Hampton Police Division spokeswoman Cpl. Mary Shackelford told WAVY.com that a 1997 Chevrolet truck went off South Armistead Avenue at 4:49 p.m. near Interstate 64.

Medics took the female passenger to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Nightingale Air Ambulance then flew her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for additional treatment.

Shackelford said medics took one of two other people in the pickup to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the woman ejected was not wearing a seat belt.

Traffic was rerouted Saturday evening. Dominion Power crews were on scene to assist with the utility pole damage.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Hampton Police Division at 727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
