CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Two black bear cubs were found wandering by a highway in Chesapeake on July 9 without a mother bear around.
According to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, the bears were rescued by a conservation police officer with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
The bears were brought to the Center, where Dr. Rich Sim performed a physical exam, a skin scraping and drew blood for lab tests. According to Sim, the cubs were thin but otherwise healthy.
The two cubs are now staying in an indoor facility, and once the Center determines when three other bears will be released, the cubs will be moved to an outdoor bear pen.
