Romney stops in Chesapeake post-debate

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made his first post-debate stop in Hampton Roads.

The former governor of Massachusetts spoke for 25 minutes to a crowd of 3,500 at Tidewater Community College Wednesday afternoon.

As expected, Governor Romney's speech focused mainly on his economic plan, but he also specifically addressed female voters and the military community.

"I'm counting on you. We have 20 days. I'm going to do everything in my power to get America back. I need your help," said Governor Romney.

A very confident Mitt Romney walked onto the stage at TCC with his sleeves rolled up, ready to get to work. His first topic was Tuesday night's debate .

"I have to be honest with you. I love these debates, you know, these things are great," said Governor Romney. "I think it's interesting the president still doesn't have an agenda for the second term."

Romney spoke about the undecided voters who asked the candidates questions in the town hall debate. He referenced college student 'Jeremy' who needs a job, 'Lorraine' who asked about immigration reform, and 'Catherine' who brought up equal pay in the work force.

"This president has failed America's women. They suffer in terms of getting jobs, in terms of falling into poverty," said Romney, speaking to female voters. "This is a presidency that has not helped America's women."

Romney did not bring up the "binders full of women" phrase he coined in Tuesday's debate, to describe how he recruited staffers in Massachusetts. Instead, he focused on the economy, and used his signature line about small business.

"If you have a small business, those of you who work at that business, you built the business yourself. Government didn't build it for you," said Governor Romney.

Governor Romney briefly mentioned the attacks in Libya, again called China a 'currency manipulator,' and physically applauded members of the armed forces, much to the satisfaction of the overwhelmingly Republican audience.

"I've always thought he had a lot of energy, but seeing him in person is unbelievable," said Tom Gillette, who attended the rally. "He's the real deal. If we don't elect him, we have a problem in this country."

Governor Romney made an appearance in Leesburg, Virginia Wednesday night.

Both candidates will face off in a third and final debate on Monday in Boca Raton, Florida.

Romney campaigned in Newport News last week.
