CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Police called off the search for a reckless driver who abandoned his vehicle and fled after leading police on a chase spanning two cities.
Kelly O'Sullivan says the pursuit started after police initiated a traffic stop for a reckless driver shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday at Volvo Parkway and Byrun in Chesapeake.
O'Sullivan says the pursuit continued to Virginia Beach, where the officer chasing the suspect hit a tree and sustained minor injuries.
Police tell WAVY.com the chase ended in the Royal Point Apartments complex on Maize Drive in Virginia Beach. The suspect ran into another car in the parking lot and fled.
The search was suspended at 5 p.m. Thursday and police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
The driver is described as a black man, 5'10", 200 pounds and medium build.
