CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - The estranged husband of a Chesapeake murder victim is accused of arranging to have her killed.

Rachel Abshire, 26, was found stabbed to death in her Kingsbridge Apartment Sunday morning. According to Officer Kelly O'Sullivan, Chesapeake Police Homicide detectives discovered that Abshire's estranged husband, Cory Abshire, had his friend, Marcus Hofferber commit the homicide.

"She has two young sons," O'Sullivan said. "They were staying with her parents for the weekend, but when they had not heard from her Sunday, the stepfather checked on her and found the body Sunday."

Abshire, 27, of Norfolk and Hofferber, 26, of Virginia Beach are both enlisted in the Navy. They are charged with conspiracy, armed burglary and murder in the first degree.

Bill Urban with Naval Surface Force, Atlantic said Abshire was a second class petty officer assigned to the USS Porter, currently at Naval Station Norfolk. Abshire has been with the Porter since May 2012.

According to Commander Kelly Brannon with the Naval Education and Training Command in Pensacola, Fla., Hofferber has been with the Surface Combat Systems Unit in Dam Neck for about a year and was a second class officer.

Hofferber's neighbors told WAVY.com Tuesday there have been a lot of complaints about noise.

A man who would not identify himself answered the door at Hofferber's townhouse and said he had no comment on his friend's arrest.

Both men are being held in the Chesapeake City Jail.
