CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Officers are investigating a deadly crash following a police chase in Chesapeake early Monday morning.

Det. D.M. Boykin with the Chesapeake Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Center Mast Crest in the Western Branch section of the city around 11:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired into a home. No one was injured in the shooting.

"I heard gunshots real fast," neighbor Kody McQuay said. "My roommate had his window cracked and heard some people making noises, arguing and heard a car drive off right down the road."

According to Boykin, the homeowner knew the suspect and was able to give police a physical description, vehicle description and the suspect’s home address.

About 30 minutes later, officers spotted the suspect driving near Volvo Parkway and Eden Way in the Greenbrier area and tried to make a traffic stop. Boykin said the suspect did not stop and led police on a short chase.

The chase ended at Greenbrier Parkway and Crossways Boulevard when the suspect crashed his vehicle and died at the scene, Boykin added. His identity has not yet been released.

Both the cause of death and the crash are under investigation. Stay with WAVY.com for more on this developing story.
