CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A North Carolina man convicted of killing two people in Virginia has received two life sentences.

Media outlets report that Charles Collins of Pollocksville, N.C., also was sentenced Monday in Chesapeake Circuit Court to 58 years in prison on related charges.

Collins had pleaded guilty in October 2012 to two first-degree murder counts, four abduction counts and several weapons charges.

Prosecutors say Collins fatally shot his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend, 40-year-old Michael Temple of Elizabeth City, N.C., and her son, 19-year-old Derwin Watts II of Chesapeake, on April 22, 2012.

A police SWAT team shot and wounded Collins during a standoff.
