CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A man who attempted to steal meat and cheese from a Chesapeake Food Lion earlier this year with an accomplice has been convicted on several charges.
Police spokeswoman Kelly O'Sullivan said two suspects, William Alston and Gregory Nance walked into the Food Lion in the 2800 block of Yadkin Road just before 11:30 a.m. March 12.
O'Sullivan said two employees tried to stop the men as they attempted to leave the store with meat and cheese. Alston bit one employee and kicked another who was taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to Nancy Parr with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, Alston was convicted of third offense petit larceny, unlawful wounding and assault and battery and faces a maximum of 11 years in prison. He will be sentenced Jan. 13, 2013.
Nance was charged with shoplifting.
