CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A man who had managed to escape from Chesapeake prison for more than a month and was found in New York was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison, three of which were for his escape.
According to DJ Hansen with the Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, the sentencing of Matthew Vogel happened Aug. 13. The judge ordered 40 years of a suspended sentence for the rest of Vogel's life.
Vogel was arrested for a flurry of cases in 2010 including grand larceny, possession of cocaine, heroin and marijuana, unauthorized distribution of paraphernalia and entering a home to commit an armed felony.
