CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A 69-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a vehicle as she was walking her dog near her home Wednesday morning.

Kelly O'Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department told WAVY.com a woman was walking her dog when she was struck by a green pickup truck around 7:45 a.m. in the area of Dunning Lane and Eagle Pointe Way.

"She was walking  her dog and as she was crossing the street, the driver was making a turn into her lane of travel and struck her," O'Sullivan told WAVY.com.

The woman died at the scene and has been identified as Nancy Gray, 69, of the 500 block of Dunning Lane. The dog is okay.

"I would see her every morning walking her dog," neighbor Mike Watson said. "I'd be walking my dog and so we would talk. She's such a wonderful person."

O'Sullivan said the driver of the SUV is a construction worker who is working in the area.

"It is our understanding that the driver said he did not see her," O'Sullivan added.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time.
