CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Michael Dan Mills, III pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Chesapeake Circuit Court on Friday, according to the prosecuting attorney in the case.
A single-vehicle DUI-related crash on Aug. 14 in Chesapeake sent Mills, the driver, to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His passenger, 19-year-old Christina Nicole Calloway, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Prosecuting Attorney Amy James says Mills could face up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 12.
Chesapeake police responded to the accident around 2:39 a.m. in the 1200 block of Blackwater Road.
According to Sarah Peedin with the Chesapeake Police Department, Mills was traveling southbound on Blackwater Road in a 2005 Ford pick-up truck when he ran off the road and struck a tree.
