CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake residents may notice a lingering chlorine taste or smell in their water for a few more days.
The Public Utilities Dept. says the temporary change from chloramines to free chlorine in the water is scheduled to be completed on Monday, Oct. 22.
The chemical change was part of a routine maintenance process and never posed a public health risk, according to Director of Public Communications Mark S. Cox.
The switch to free chlorine began on Oct. 1. The change affected water for all City customers, except those in Western Branch near Airline Boulevard.
The last time the disinfecting agent was added to City water was in Jan. 2009.
Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Public Utilities Water Quality Laboratory at 382-3550.
