Chesapeake deputy city manager resigns

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake Deputy City Manager Betty Jean Meyer resigned Tuesday evening and was denied severance.

Meyer's abrupt resignation was announced via email during the council meeting Tuesday.

City council voted 6-2 to deny Meyer severance pay for two months. According to the City of Chesapeake website , Meyer was in charge of finances and the budget for the city under Interim City Manager Amar Dwarkanath.

Dwarkanath has served in that position since April 1, 2012.

Meyer has been with the city since 1999.
