SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) - The body of a missing man has been recovered from Cypress Creek at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, according to officials.
Chief Steve Bowman with the Smithfield Police Department told WAVY.com officers received a missing person’s report Wednesday morning around 9 a.m. regarding 29-year-old Andre Scott of Smithfield.
According to Bowman, Scott went fishing Tuesday night at the pier in the park, located at 301 Jericho Rd. His cell phone and fishing equipment were located on the pier Wednesday.
"He liked to fish, hang with his friends, real cool person, didn't start no trouble. Real nice, real nice," Scott's relative Angela Harris said.
Officers and Virginia Marine Police searched for Scott Wednesday using side scan sonar and divers in the water, but were unable to locate him.
Scott's body was ultimately found Thursday at low tide and first light about 50 yards from the pier, Bowman told WAVY.com. No foul play is suspected.
