HYDE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - One person was taken to the hospital in serious condition after a boat capsized near the Hatteras Inlet Friday evening.
Jamie Tunnell Carter, spokesperson for Ocracoke, said a call was made into Hyde County dispatch in reference to a 23’ Grady White boat that had capsized. All four passengers were carried by ocean current about two miles south, where they ended up on Ocracoke beach shore.
After receiving treatment from Hyde County EMS and the Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department, one person was transported by a Coast Guard helicopter to a local hospital and is said to be in serious condition at this time.
The others did not need further treatment.
Carter said the boat capsized because of rough seas.
