VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Virginia Beach is looking for volunteers to participate in an emergency preparedness exercise on Aug. 25, and all you need to do is drive up, get free water, and leave.

Virginia Beach Public Utilities is hosting the exercise at Kempsville Middle School, 860 Churchill Drive, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Officials say the exercise will simulate the mass distribution of water in the event the city's water supply is ever compromised.

"This is an opportunity to test emergency relief plans before a catastrophic event occurs so when the time does come, we'll be well equipped to serve the community," said Public Utilities Director Thomas Leahy. "I'd like to urge citizens in the area on Aug. 25 to stop by and help make this exercise a success."

Signs posted in the immediate area will direct participants to the distribution area. There, participants will simply drive through a designated area to receive a free case of bottled water.

According to authorities, volunteers should be in-and-out in about 10 minutes.
