PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Police are investigating a possible assault on a kindergarten student in Portsmouth.
Channell Elliott told 10 On Your Side a teacher at James Hurst Elementary left fingernail marks in his son's arm Monday.
"I was standing on the toilet and the teacher went in there and grabbed me and got me off and scratched me," 5-year-old Kamari told WAVY.com
Kamari says his teacher's fingernails dug into his skin and made him bleed.
Kamari's mother went to the school the next day and says initially, Kamari's teacher denied the claims, then said she didn't mean to hurt the child.
"I explained to her that, 'If you didn't' mean to do it, it would be a whep from a scratch, meaning you tried to grab him fast and you scratched him,'" said Elliott.
WAVY.com contacted the teacher who refused to comment.
Police said they will not press charges until the investigation is complete, and the teacher is still employed with James Hurst Elementary.
