VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Police on Friday released the identities of a husband and wife found dead in their home in the 4000 block of Barkleaf Drive in the Timberlake section of Virginia Beach.

Judith K. Osborne, 66, and David S. Osborne, 78, were found in their home around 11:42 a.m. on Thursday.

Also Friday, the Medical Examiner's Office ruled the official cause of death as a murder/suicide.

Police say they went to the home after receiving a call from someone requesting they check on the couple. The first officer who arrived at the house went inside through a back door and the first thing he saw was a dog covered in blood, struggling to breathe.

Heading deeper inside the house the officer found the pair dead.

Bertha Blackman, a neighbor, said on Thursday, "That's my neighbor two doors down and he's an older gentleman and he drives a school bus and I was really surprised when I came home from the market today to find the whole street blocked off."

Neighbors seemed at a loss, wondering what happened. "I've known them since I was in middle school," said Virginia Bessette. "So, it's a little heartbreaking."

Bessette said she never heard the husband and wife arguing. "No, they seemed happy," she said.

The dog was transported to a local hospital by Animal Control.
