Sessoms re-elected in landslide

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Long-time Virginia Beach official Will Sessoms was re-elected by a landslide on Tuesday, defeating his closest runner up by 50 percent.

As of Wednesday morning, with 99 percent of precincts reporting, Sessoms held 69 percent of the vote. RK Kowalewitch was second with 19 percent and Wally Erb came in third with 11 percent of the total vote.

Sessoms, a vocal supporter of bringing light rail and an arena to the Beach, first served on Beach city council from 1988 to 2002, as vice mayor from 1992 to 2002 and was elected mayor in 2008.

Kowalewitch, also a long-time Hampton Roads resident, owns a surf shop at the Oceanfront and Erb, now retired, had served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years.
