NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say one woman ran over another in a vehicle during an argument in Newport News Tuesday.
Brandie Roberson, 23, and Crystal Prescott, 31, were arguing outside of a home in the 500 block of Adams Drive in Newport News, according to police.
WAVY.com spoke with Roberson, who said she and Prescott have been dating for five years. She says, like most couples, the two argue, but this time it went too far.
"I was pretty much thinking, this is it, I'm going to die," said Roberson, who has tire tracks across her stomach. "It brings back flashbacks, because I was very aware of everything that went on," she said.
Roberson says she and Prescott were visiting a friend at the apartment complex when they got into a fight. She says Prescott had been drinking, so when she got in the car to leave, Roberson tried to stop her from driving.
"With the grip I had on the car, when it turned, I went under it," said Roberson. "The mirror pulled me under the front tires. The car actually stood on me, I want to say, a little bit over 30 seconds and instead of rolling backwards, the car went forward and rolled over me twice."
And then, Prescott drove off. Roberson believes her girlfriend was too intoxicated to know what she was doing.
"To be honest, she's really unaware of any of it," said Roberson. "She has no recognition of anything that happened."
And what doctors told her seems almost miraculous. She did not have one broken bone, just lots of bruising and tissue damage. Roberson hopes the relationship isn't broken either.
"Do I love her? Yes. Yeah I do," said Roberson. "It's been five years. We've been through a lot, so I want to believe that it wasn't on purpose, that it was a freak accident type of thing."
Prescott is charged with hit and run and aggravated assault. She is being held at the Newport News City Jail.
