CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a Norfolk police officer assaulted a trooper during a DUI check early Wednesday morning.
According to Deborah Cox with the Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched to a car crash on Interstate 664 in Chesapeake.
Cox said upon arrival, troopers saw a 2010 Scion had crashed into a guardrail, spun around and at the time, was facing the wrong direction on the exit ramp.
The driver, 29-year-old Nina Thomas of Chesapeake, was not injured. Thomas became uncooperative and combative during a sobriety test, according to Cox.
Karen Parker-Chesson confirmed to WAVY.com Thomas worked with the Norfolk Police Department starting in September 2010. It is not clear yet what Thomas' current employment status is with the department.
Thomas was charged with DUI, refusal to take a blood/breath test and felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
