VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police say a road rage incident in the Kings Grant area led to a shooting early Thursday morning.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said emergency crews received a call from a man claiming he’d been shot while driving in the 900 block of Queen Elizabeth Drive just before 1:30 a.m. When police and EMS crew arrived on scene, they found the victim lying in the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Further investigation revealed the victim, identified as Drew Carson, and suspect, identified as Michael John Kemp, 20, were involved in a road rage incident in the Kings Grant area, Moyers said.
At one point, Carson followed Kemp home to the 900 block of Oxford Drive and then fled as the Kemp chased him, according to investigators. Moyers said Kemp fired several shots at Carson’s vehicle, hitting him once in the back.
Carson was able to drive to Queen Elizabeth Drive despite being shot, and collapsed just outside of his father's home.
Carson's sister, Shellie Carson, was beaten to death seven years ago and her case remains unsolved.
"I feel very bad about Bill because his daugther got killed down here in the circle," Carson's neighbor Kneeland Nesius said.
WAVY.com spoke with the father of Shellie and Drew, who said he is trying to deal with the shooting of his son and his daughter's unsolved murder the best way he knows how - one day at a time.
Kemp has been charged with felonious assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is incarcerated at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
