ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) - While Isle of Wight sheriff's deputies were investigating stolen farm equipment, a truck stuck in the mud led them to a suspect.
Lt. Bob Fox with the sheriff's office says the incident occurred just after noon May 16 in the 12000 block of Blue Ridge Trail in Windsor.
When deputies arrived, Fox said they noticed a red pickup truck stuck in the mud, and that several pieces of farm equipment had been in the back before it became stuck.
Deputies determined that before they arrived, several stainless steel livestock feeders valued at approximately $2,000, were dragged out of the truck and dumped into another part of the field to disguise the attempted theft.
Fox says that a search of the truck also lead deputies to find a bag containing suspected narcotics.
Tobias K. Greene, 25, of Smithfield, was later charged with grand larceny, trespassing, and possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute.
"Everybody knows everybody you see somebody walking down the road and you don't recognize them a lot of times that throws up a red flag," said TC Foster who helped catch the alleged thief.
