Teen pleads in beating of ex-NFL player

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A teen accused of beating a former NFL player in Chesapeake pled guilty to four felony charges Friday and now faces up to 60 years in prison.
Nancy Parr, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Chesapeake, told WAVY.com James Richardson-Jackson pled guilty to malicious wounding by mob and recruiting for a gang as well as two other charges in connection to the beating of Ed Beard in October.
The 71-year-old is a former linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers.
Richardson-Jackson’s plea was part of a deal, Parr added. In exchange for entering a guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop an aspect of a gang charge that carried a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison.
The teen will be formally sentenced on Sept. 6 and faces up to 60 years in an adult prison.
Parr said the teen’s attorney plans to seek a juvenile disposition. Three other juveniles are still scheduled to stand trial.
