Teen arrested in food delivery robbery

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a 19-year-old was arrested in connection with a robbery of a food delivery driver.

Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department says officers were flagged down by a delivery food driver Monday, Aug. 27 shortly after 5 p.m. The driver for restaurant China Wok in Newport News told police he had just been robbed on his way to a delivery in the 100 block of Blair Avenue.

The driver told police he was robbed at gunpoint and suspects got away with food. He says the two men tried to take his money and his car, but they ran when they saw a patrol vehicle.

Police were able to apprehend one of the suspects, 19-year-old Arthur Tony Ellis of Newport News in connection with the robbery. Ellis has been charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.

McPherson says the second suspect is still at large, who is described as a black man in his early 20s with a light complexion and a goatee, wearing jeans and a light-colored shirt.
