NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a 19-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted by her ex-boyfriend is safe, after the couple surrendered themselves to police.

According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, Kian Savage was in a shopping center parking lot in the 12900 block of Jefferson Avenue with her family just before 4 p.m.

Thurston said 19-year-old Jimira Walton, Savage's ex-boyfriend, approached the group. A fight occurred and Walton allegedly forced Savage into his car and drove off with her. Thurston said Walton drove off southbound on Jefferson Avenye.

Savage and Walton lived together in the 600 block of Trails Lane.

Thurston said Walton turned himself in to Newport News Police Headquarters just after 8 p.m. Thursday after he received phone calls he was on the evening news.

Savage is safe and Walton's charges are pending. WAVY.com spoke with Savage shortly after Walton turned himself in.

Savage did not want to speak on-camera, but told WAVY.com the whole situation was a misunderstanding. She says she was not abducted.
