Suspected killer on his way back to OBX

MEDINA, Ohio (WAVY) - Nate Summerfield, the man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in the Outer Banks, is on his way back to Dare County.

Summerfield waived extradition early Friday afternoon in a Medina, Ohio courtroom. He was apprehended Wednesday at a motel in Medina after more than a month on the run and arrested in connection with the strangulation and stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer in Dare County, N.C.

According to Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff's Office, Summerfield is set to arrive in North Carolina late Friday night or early Saturday morning. An exact time or location has not been released.

Hoggard says upon his arrival in Dare County, Summerfield will be formally charged with murder and taken before a judge to determine a bond. Hoggard says bond is typically denied in these types of cases.

North Carolina's assistant district attorney Nancy Lamb will have to decide whether to seek the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Court officials released the search warrant executed following Summerfield's arrest in Medina.

Jackenheimer was reported missing July 4, and her body was found in a brush 10 days later in Frisco, N.C.
