VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Two suspects who police say walked out of a pet store with an expensive bird have been arrested after the bird was returned to the store.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said an employee of Animal Jungle discovered the bird missing on Oct. 14. Two suspects were later seen on camera concealing the bird and then leaving the store.
Tuesday, Virginia Beach Police released surveillance photos of the suspects in hopes of identifying them. The next day, the male suspect, identified as Charles Leo Frueh, 31, of Norfolk returned the bird to Animal Jungle, unharmed, Moyers said.
The female suspect, Chaunda Sue Dickerson, 29, of Chesapeake was arrested Thursday at a home in Norfolk.
The bird is a White Bellied Caique, valued over $800. It’s described as 7 ½ - 8”, a white belly with a green body and a few black spots on the head.
Both have been charged with grand larceny and have since been released on bond.
