NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police were able to make an arrest in a gas station robbery only moments after the crime occurred.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department said officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station located at 4900 Jefferson Ave. around 1 p.m. Sunday for a report of a robbery. A man reportedly brandished a firearm, went behind the counter and took money from the registers.
The suspect fled on foot but was spotted by an officer near 46th Street. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Prince Jhamier Bell of Newport News, was detained and arrested. He has been charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Detectives are asking the witnesses inside the store at the time of the robbery to call 757-928-4217.
