PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A Portsmouth man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting on Lakeview Drive on May 16.
Portsmouth dispatchers received the call around 9:30 p.m.
Jan Westerbeck with the Portsmouth Police Department said officers arrived to find the 20-year-old victim shot in the hip. He was transported to Norfolk General Hospital where he was expected to recover.
An investigation revealed that the victim was trying to enter his home through a side door when the suspect approached him. Westerbeck says the two became involved in a struggle and the suspect ran away after gun fired.
On June 14, police arrested Michael Rashad Bowser, 24, on outstanding warrants for aggravated malicious wounding, use or display a firearm in the commission of a felony and attempt to commit a non-capital offense.
Investigators determined the motive for the shooting was robbery.
