SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - School officials told WAVY.com a fifth grader who brought marijuana to school in an effort stop his dad from smoking will be transferred.
According to Bethane Bradshaw with Suffolk Public Schools, the student will be transferred from Driver Elementary to a middle school alternative program.
Officers responded to Driver Elementary School Feb. 23. The student told officers he found marijuana in his dad's truck and took it to school with him to show his teacher he wanted his dad to stop using it.
Bradshaw said the student's parents were notified of the transfer Wednesday and will be sent a letter Thursday. They will have five days to appeal the school system's decision.
