Hampton man shot to death near home

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for the shooting death of a man along Bethel Avenue Sunday night.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said officers were called to the 1100 block of Bethel Avenue just before 11:15 p.m. for a report of shots fired. That call was upgraded to a shooting as dispatchers received more information.

Officers and emergency crew services found an adult male victim lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Shackelford said. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He was pronounced dead just before midnight and has been identified as Jaime Michael Combs, 31. According to Shackelford, Combs lived in the 1100 block of Bethel Avenue.

Shackelford said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
