Man shot in shoulder in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton elementary school was placed on lockdown after a man was shot in the shoulder Wednesday afternoon.

Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Department told WAVY.com the shooting occurred in the 3000 block of West Lewis Road around 12:45 p.m. An adult male suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Aberdeen Elementary School, which is located on Aberdeen Road, was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Sgt. Jason Price with the Hampton Police Division said just before 2 p.m. the lockdown was lifted.

There is nothing to indicate the students were in any danger.

No suspect information is available at this time and a motive is also unknown. Anyone with information should call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
